A Weekend Getaway

There have been times when I've been infinitely aware of the blessings in my life. When God allows me to see how much He loves me and how He gives me the desires of my heart. Back in the 90's there was this car commercial for an SUV. It was driving through NYC with canoes on top. Someone passing by was like "It's a Tuesday, where are they going?" This commercial totally struck a heart string with me and ever since then I think the same thing everytime I drive up to a gas station and see someone loaded with bikes or kayaks or gear. I'm always so jealous that I can't join them. Well, this weekend I got to be in that car. I know that probably seems really lame, but it was such a reminder of the Lord's love for me.

Dan's good buddy Jake was leaving for Idaho this week and we wanted to go celebrate before he left. He was med-boarded out of the military and he officially retired this week. So we decided to rent kayaks and hit the river. So that's what we did. It was really fun! We didn't really know what to expect, b/c we don't know the river here well. Turns out it's pretty boring. We ended up kayaking about 25 miles, on a slow moving river. We only got out once for about 15 min and coasted maybe a total of 45 min all day. Other than that we paddled for 6 1/2 straight hours. We were pretty excited when we saw that boat ramp!! Why does that always happen to me! :)

Dan and Jake packed up before we hit the put in spot.

I had to wait with the kayaks for almost 3 hours while they dropped the Jeep off at the get out point. I got bored and started playing with my camera. Then I ended up falling asleep in the kayak.

We just got on the river. . . who knew it would be such a long day! :) Good times!

Very fun...but WAY too familiar of a story I know all too well!! ha ha. All I can say is that's a long kayak trip, but at least it wasn't pouring down rain on you while you paddle over rocks and get to a dead end that requires you to paddle back up river to get home. Good times! ;)
